Mirabai Chanu And Bindyarani Devi approved to train in US
In an exciting development for the Indian weightlifting community, accomplished athletes Mirabai Chanu and Bindyarani Devi, both known for their impressive silver medal performances in prestigious international competitions, have been granted permission to undertake a specialized training program in the United States.
Departing for a 65-day training camp in St. Louis, Missouri, Chanu and Devi will be honing their skills under the expert guidance of renowned sports physician Dr. Aaron Horschig at Squat University. With a primary focus on rehabilitation and strength training, this opportunity aims to enhance their performance ahead of the highly anticipated Asian Games.
Training in St. Louis
In a recent announcement by the Sports Authority of India (SAI), it was revealed that the duo will undergo an intensive training regime at Squat University, under the supervision of Dr. Horschig. Known for his expertise in optimizing athletic performance and injury prevention, Dr. Horschig’s guidance promises to provide the lifters with invaluable insights and methodologies to reach new heights in their respective weight categories. The weightlifters embarked on their journey to the United States on June 12, accompanied by their trusted coach, Vijay Sharma, and the esteemed physiotherapist, Tesneem Zayyad.
Government Support
Recognizing the immense potential of these talented athletes, the Mission Olympic Cell of the Union Sports Ministry has wholeheartedly endorsed their training abroad. The government has agreed to cover all necessary expenses, including airfare, accommodation, food, health insurance, local transportation, gym memberships, and medical consultations. This gesture underscores the nation’s commitment to supporting its athletes in their pursuit of excellence on the international stage.
Mirabai Chanu’s Road to Recovery
Following her participation in the Asian Championships held in South Korea last month, Mirabai Chanu, who was grappling with a hip issue, made the strategic decision to embark on a brief training trip to the United States. The Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWLF) initially planned to send additional lifters alongside Chanu and Devi; however, the federation ultimately chose to focus solely on the duo’s training in order to maximize their preparation for upcoming competitions.
