PV Sindhu was born on July 5, 1995, in Hyderabad to her parents, PV Ramana and P Vijaya. Both her parents were national-level volleyball players, with her father being a member of the team that won the bronze medal in the 1986 Seoul Asian Games. In recognition of his contributions to sports, he received the Arjuna Award in 2000. PV Sindhu completed her schooling at Auxilium High School, Hyderabad, and later pursued her education at St. Ann’s College for Women, Hyderabad. It was under the inspiration of Pullela Gopichand, the 2001 All England Open Badminton Champion, that Sindhu decided to pursue badminton as her career.

Since July 2013, PV Sindhu has been employed as an Assistant Sports Manager at Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) in Hyderabad. Following her remarkable achievement of winning a silver medal at the Rio Olympics in 2016, BPCL promoted her to the position of Deputy Sports Manager. PV Sindhu’s journey in badminton began at the tender age of eight. Under the guidance of Mehboob Ali, she embarked on her badminton training at the Indian Railway Institute of Signal Engineering and Telecommunications in Secunderabad. Overcoming significant distances, Sindhu traveled 56 kilometers each day from her residence to the badminton courts, showcasing her unwavering dedication to the sport. She later joined the renowned Gopichand Badminton Academy, where she honed her skills and achieved numerous titles in the under-10 category. Notably, she emerged victorious in the 5th Servo All India ranking championship, securing triumphs in both the doubles and singles categories.
