Explosive Batting Display

Opting to bat first, the Super Gillies amassed a formidable total of 217 for five. The foundation of their imposing score was laid by skipper N. Jagadeesan (35) and the dynamic Pradosh, who forged a blistering 91-run partnership, mercilessly punishing the Spartans’ bowling attack. Pradosh’s innings was a sight to behold, featuring powerful sweeps and elegant late-cuts that left the opposition in disarray.

Particularly noteworthy was his aggressive assault on left-arm spinner Ganesh Moorthi, dispatching him for boundaries through midwicket and long-on. With a flourish, the Super Gillies concluded the PowerPlay with an impressive 64 runs on the board.

Late Flourish and Spin Wizardry

Sanjay Yadav provided the perfect finishing touch to the Super Gillies’ innings with an unbeaten 31 off just 12 balls, comprising two boundaries and three colossal sixes. The Spartans’ hopes of chasing down the mammoth target dwindled early in their innings as the Super Gillies’ spin duo, B. Aparajith and B. Rocky, wreaked havoc on their top-order, snatching two wickets each. The Spartans struggled to keep up with the mounting required run rate and lost wickets at regular intervals.

Valiant Effort in Vain

Despite the seemingly insurmountable challenge, Mohammed Adnan Khan brought a moment of excitement to the match with an unbeaten 47 off a mere 15 balls, including one boundary and five towering sixes. In the 19th over, Khan unleashed his fury on R. Rohit, hammering the paceman for four consecutive sixes. However, his heroic effort proved to be too little, too late for the Spartans, who eventually succumbed to the Super Gillies’ dominance.

The scores:

Chepauk Super Gillies 217/5 in 20 overs (Pradosh Ranjan Paul 88, N. Jagadeesan 35, R. Sanjay Yadav 31 n.o., B. Aparajith 29, Sunny Sandhu 2/32) bt Salem Spartans 165/9 in 20 overs (Muhammed Adnan Khan 47 n.o., B. Rocky 2/13, M Viju Arul 2/18, B. Aparajith 2/28).
